Case Study: Double Page Spread AS

CASE STUDY: DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

The double page spread I have chosen to review the article about pop-star Austin Mahone.
The target audience for this double page spread are fans of Austin and his music. Teenagers are attracted to the headline of 'I LOVE TO CUDDLE'. This heartwarming statement makes any fantasies the fans have of Austin, but also make him seem more relate able. Further more, the '100% HOT' suggests that this article is to objectify Austin for just his looks, juxtapose to the actual article speaking about his career, funny stories and future plans.

The color scheme is quite unique, catching your eye as you look through the magazine. The primary color is yellow, symbolizing joy and happiness. Red is used to help make the white text stand out. Red could symbolize love while white would symbolize purity, two key selling features of most popular pop stars and celebrities today.

The subheading calls Austin "The Next Justin Bieber". Comparing Austin with the pop icon Justin Bieber shows how much potential Austin has in the music business. Also, the iconography of Justin is used here to promote the article. The subheading also says that Austin is single and wants to find a girlfriend. It also states that "Form an orderly queue, ladies". This suggests that the reader of the article has a chance of dating Austin, and draws them in to read the rest of the article and find out what else they can do to make themselves more compatible with Austin.

The poster of Austin shows him smiling, making him look happy and presentable. His shirt is multi-colored and has weird patterns on it This shows his quirky side and how quirky and creative Austin is. His wacky shirt also shows his individuality

Case Study: Contents Page AS

CASE STUDY: CONTENTS PAGE

The contents page follows the trend in which the magazines language relates to a teenage audience. You can see this from the use of extended words i.e 'sooooooo exciting!'. This, almost like one texting another greets the reader with some reassurance that they are reading a friendly magazine. Also, it makes the reader feel like they are talking to a friend more than a professional. This playful language is engaging for the reader to read and makes it seem not boring.

The use of the color pink is still a major theme throughout the magazine, and this indicates that this magazine is aimed at girls. But the inclusion of blue on this contents page could suggest they tried to grasp a male audience. The white back ground is used to contrast with the other colors and helps them stand out.

Once again, the boy-band 'One Direction' are used to attract the female gaze and reassure them that they are the center point in this issue. Other pop stars are used to show how ride a variety this magazine has to offer music wise. The editors picture shows a young woman, and this shows the reader that this issue was made by a young woman who shares relate-able views with young girls.

Social media is a key point in this contents page, and it shows the reader how up to date this magazine is and it also shows them that they can access this issue anywhere if they have a tablet, phone or computer. This connection to the internet spreads awareness of the magazine and advertises the magazine across a wider platform. Nowadays, teenagers use there electronic devices to do everything, so this inclusion is smart.

Case Study: Cover And Colour Analysis AS

CASE STUDY: COVER AND COLOR ANALYSIS

The target audience for this magazine is young teenagers and you can see this in many ways.
The bright color scheme is attractive for the eye because it is fun and playful, this relates to the target audience because teens like something creative rather than dull. Furthermore, the color pink is most commonly associated with girls, so the use of it on the cover and the title of the magazine could suggest that the magazine is targeted at girls.

Pink is the main color of the cover because it is used to say the most impactful information, but it also stands out from the varied background colors. The assortment of colors around the cover are all vibrant, and could suggest that the reader would have fun actually reading the magazine. The pink complements the white text making it nice to read. The whole color scheme also reflects the summer, making the reader think back to their summer experiences.
The color scheme is also used throughout the entire magazine, keeping to the girly and fun loving theme. This also reflects the articles the magazine has.

Iconography is used here to attract readers. The popular boy band "One Direction" is used as the central image of the magazine, and is used to attract the female population, as the band are very famous and they have a lot of fans who would buy the issue. Also, the style and placement of the free gift is used to attract the readers, in particular, 'One Direction' fans. The idea of getting free content is appeals to the reader because they feel special getting exclusive content. The other inclusions of famous pop icons attracts a diverse crowd of music fans. The female gaze its implemented here to attract readers.

The text is aimed to relate to the teenage community, and you can see this from the dialect that they use. 'Hot Boys Galore!'  shows that this magazine is trying to connect with a teenage audience, and does so impressively. 'FREE' is mentioned multiple times across the cover, and this attracts the idea of that you are getting more than what you paid for. The other free gifts such as posters are important also, an assortment of free items intrigues the reader to buy the issue.
