Evaluation 5

I have attracted my target audience by using stereotypical tropes of pop rock music magazines. For instance, the certain idiolect that I have decided to use in some of the articles and taglines. I have done this to connect with the audiences certain slang and sayings. It is also done to show how young the writers at my magazine are, and it also makes my magazine very approachable, like you are greeting an old friend.
The visuals in my magazine, including the layout, are used to make it an easy read for my target audience. For instance, the most exciting headlines are made the biggest to show the audience what they can expect from the magazines many articles

I also made my magazines colour scheme very colourful making it look attractive.

Evaluation 4

The audience for my magazine would be young adults and teenagers. The genre of music is rock, and this music demographic has been popularised over the years entirely due to music magazines. I have aimed to hit the demographic by incorporating many different elements of stereotypical music magazines.
Fans of rock music usually have a slight social disposition, not wanting to conform to everyday music genres like pop music or rap. They also want musicians that are not manufactured or made to sell albums, they want musicians thats purpose in life is to bring music to people.

Evaluation 3

I have chosen Bauer Media Group as my Institution because they manage Kerrang!, the leading inspiration for my magazine. They also seem to be in touch on how to attract the audience by getting exclusive interviews with the most popular artists of there genre. They also use all platforms of social media and television to promote and advertise the magazines that they manage. This comes in the form of many things, such as websites, facebook and twitter pages, radio shows and even awards ceremonies. I have also chosen Bauer Media Group because they are in touch with the younger market, with the journalists writing the columns actually engaged and interested with the musicians they are writing about.

Evaluation 2

Evaluation 1

My magazine doesn't change the form and convention of music magazines. It follows the genre and its themes respectively. I tried to replicate the tone and style of 'Kerrangs' most popular covers and issues. I have used many conventions of popular music magazines to influence my cover. The Panacea cover is very simple yet intriguing. Making my cover so enigmatic would attract the audience to look inside and read the contents. I have also used "World Exclusive" as my cover line, and this is done to enhance the feeling in which the reader experiences while reading the magazine. Making it "Exclusive"makes the reader feel privileged and special reading the issue. Making it a "World Exclusive" enhances this so.
The title 'Panacea' is placed behind the main image, and this is done to replicate most music magazine covers. It is also done to make the main image seem important. I also made the main image look important by making it glow, contrasting with the black background.
I also implemented a bar code, date and price to give the cover a sense of realism. The rough background also respects the genre because textured backgrounds are what are usually accustomed to the genre. I have also chosen a model that has a distinct 'Rocker' look to relate to my magazines genre. My musician is also quite young, appealing to my target audience of teenagers and young adults, making them believe that even they can become a world famous rock star. The colour scheme that is present throughout my issue is black, white, red and yellow. I have chosen black and white to represent the genre of grunge and heavy rock. Red and yellow to attract audiences.I have also followed the conventions of music magazines by keeping with the grunge like
layout. I have included a detailed editors letter to welcome the audience into the magazine. Having this letter is very reminiscent of other popular music magazines. It is done to greet the audience as they read the magazine. I have included an article advertisement which was mentioned on the front cover of the magazine. This remembrance of previous articles is much like a real magazine. I have also included a advert for another musician at the bottom of the page, and this is done to resemble previous magazines in which I have studied.

These are some magazine covers that have inspired my final design

Ideology Homework

Ideology, Why is it important?

Ideology is the message that the media producers are trying to get across.
The audience see these messages in their own unique way, making their own interpretations of the producers work have even greater meaning. Ideology are beliefs and values in society.
100 years ago, Women were not allowed to vote, and this was common ideology for that time. As time went on, ideas changed about women. This change has made women equal to men, making ideology important in developing society.
Ideologies of happiness are common too. Some would say family is happiness, while overs would choose many partners as happiness. Some would be a happy idiot than a sad genius.
Peoples different interpretations make big impacts on their lives.
Ideologies are sometimes seen as stereotypes, with peoples interpretation of women being objects while men are stupid. Some TV shows emphasise how important marriage is when it comes to sex. In family programs, their never is a family in which the parents of the children are just boyfriend and girlfriend, they always have to be married. Although, sometimes these ideologies are negative though, with interracial relationships and same-sex relationships not commonly seen in some television shows. However, as times change, peoples ideology of relationships have become more understanding and accepting of these relationships.
As peoples interpretations change, so do the people.

Cover Artwork Test

This is my first official cover in which I will base the rest of the work on.
The target audience are 16-30 year old music lovers, and you can see this from the sub heading. "The Love, Loss and Life of musics biggest artist"shows the audience how important this issue is to the music world, recognisable to many.
The colour scheme is red, black and white. Red represents danger, while the black and white represents the old style of media. These colours were chosen to show how while my artist is full of danger, his music is classic and will last forever. Also, this red, black and white colour scheme represents a deck of cards, showing the audience how the artist has been played, or, is playing life like a game.
The title of the magazine is Panacea, panacea meaning the remedy to all difficulties. This word shows the audience that this magazine is sophisticated, and when the audience understand what the word means they feel smarter.
I have chosen the main headline to be "The real story of Billy The Kid"
"Billy the Kid"'s font is in a old western style, representing the names true origin.

Magazine Genre Research

Magazine genre is a key component to making a successful magazine. Having a clear genre for your magazine will help define the musicians that feature on it.

Cover Tests 2016

This first design was me testing the limitations of the visual elements. I tested whether the audience can still recognize the models while their faces being distorted using effects. This uncertainty and enigmatic look at our models show the genre of indie music present. Distorting the faces of the models also show how the audience, instead of looking at their appearance, should take a gamble by listening to their music.

This is the test double page spread for the first design, and I tried to keep to my theme of uncertainty. Taking a gamble by reading this magazine is perfect for describing what my musicians stand for, individualism. Having the background on the poster bright yellow while the artists have a black and white effect. This different take on standing out and clashing colours brings a minimalistic view on music, being different but simple. The yellow colour represents happiness, while black represents sorrow. This juxtaposition of the two colours is different to what we usually see in a stereotypical magazine.

Here was my interpretation of different angles, emotions and colors to convey the genre. I feel like indie/rock/electronic music is unlike any other, so making my covers out of the ordinary is a good choice. I kept the idea of distorting the face of the artist in these covers.

This was the cover which inspired me to make my final one, with it being very minimalistic. The simplicity captured the emotion that I wanted to convey within the cover. I wanted to show a tormented soul, a musician who's been through hell and is back for good. The artist is also looking off away from the camera. This shows how the artist doesn't care how he is represented or seen as, as long as his music is heard. This raw emotion from non verbal communication and image represents the genre perfectly.
